HEFagrar PhD Symposium
9th HEFagrar PhD Symposium on April 25th, 2023
From willingness to pay for biological crop protection to calf weight development – in the 9th edition of the Hans Eisenmann-Forum PhD Symposium 28 PhD students took advantage of the opportunity to present their projects and receive feedback via poster presentations, talks or elevator pitches. PD Dr. Kristin Knipfer, TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning (TUM IL3) introduced career opportunities in science management and the services offered by TUM IL3. Awards for best contributions went to:
- Best Elevator Pitch: Ariel Tasca „Spatiotemporal phosphorus deficiency and water limitation responses in B73 and root hairless rth3 maize mutants” (Professorship Crop Physiology)
- Best Poster: Sabrina Schleibinger „Proteases inhibition in chicken organ cultures reduces avian influenza virus replication“ (Professorship Reproductive Biotechnology)
- Best Talk: Bester Talk: Sabine Wittmann „Indoor Vertical Farming – impact on resource efficiencies” (Chair of Digital Agriculture, HSWT Applied Science Center for Smart Indoor Farming)
Anton Vorndran received the Schaumann Foundation award for his master thesis on the topic "Determination of the Emergence of Non-Eatable Biomass from the Agricultural and Processing Sector in Germany" at the Chair of Animal Nutrition and Metabolism.
We would like to thank the Graduate Center Weihenstephan for taking care of printing and catering costs.
8th HEFagrar PhD Symposium on April 26, 2022
The 8th HEFagrar PhD Symposium took place on April 26, 2022.
Finally, we could meet in person again after two years of COVID. In 9 talks and 15 poster presentations we learned about a great variety of topics and projects. In the afternoon, TUM ForTe informed on "Resarch funding support for national and international funding opportunities"
The HEFagrar PhD Symposium is a platform for young scientists to get into contact with colleagues, for sharing experiences and for networking. It is a great opportunity to learn about all aspects of the establishment of sustainable land use systems, from basic research to applied questions.
We thank all participants for their contributions and congratulate this year's award winners for
"Best Elevator Pitch": Christine Anglhuber "What are you made of? Genomic breed contribution in Fleckvieh and Brown Swiss cattle"
"Best poster": Milena Brunner "Analyzing the B-cell receptor repertoire of chickens"
"Best talk": Franziska Steiner "Drought response of soil aggregation and soil organic dynamics in the rhizosphere of different maize cultivars"
We are already looking forward to next year !!
7th HEFagrar PhD Symposium on April 27, 2021
On April 27 we hosted an interesting event with 7 talks and 15 poster presentations from different areas in the agricultural sciences. Also included were inputs from the Global Food Venture Programm (GFVP), the TUM Food/Agro/Biotech Venture Lab (FACIT) and the start-up PALTECH.
Due to Covid we had to online once again, with much more digital experience than last year. Nevertheless, we hope to meet in person again on the next HEFagrar PhD Symposium.

Congratulations to our award winners:
Best Poster Pitch
Martin Strenner: "The plant as an indicator – comparison of the impact on corn plants of different organic fertilizers in organic agriculture by using field spectroscopy"
Tamara Wiesel: "Sightability model for fawn detection in grassland."
Thomas Mösl: "Comparing yield gaps of different organic and conventional farming systems at crop and crop rotation level"
6th HEFagrar PhD Symposium on April 28, 2020
Due to Covid 19 the HEFagrar PhD Symposium took place online on Tuesday, April 28th.
With 6 talks, 9 poster presentations by PhD students, inputs from MCTS and TUMForTe and pitches by 3 start ups we had a diversified program with many exciting contributions. It was a very successful event that worked well as an online format despite some minor technical problems. The only thing missing were the breaktime conversations over coffee and cookies with a direct personal exchange.
Many thanks to all participants, speakers, presenters, moderators and co-discussers !
Congratulations to our award winners:
Best Poster Pitch
Thomas Mösl: "Analysis of organic matter balances and yield perfomance of organic and conventional cultivation systems"
Aniela Honig: "Effects of dietary energy concentration and final weigth in the body copmposition of Fleckvieh bulls."
Alessandro Brambilla: "Plant-to-plant propagation of innate immunity via VOCs"
