In the future, www.gesunde-kaelber-bayern.de will provide a pool of knowledge on the keeping, rearing and health of calves. The website will be continuously developed and supplemented with new articles. Farmers and advisors will thus be able to access a wide range of knowledge on calf husbandry quickly and easily. "The special thing about it is that it is not a collection or linking of many different publications, but that the information has been and is prepared in a practical and clear way and coordinated among all those involved," says Minister of Agriculture Kaniber.
Tiergesundheitsdienst Bayern e.V. is coordinating the project, with cooperation partners including the Technical University of Munich, the State Research Center for Agriculture, the state farms, the State Board of Trustees of the Producer Rings for Animal Refinement in Bavaria e.V. and the Bavarian Cattle Breeders' Association e.V. According to Julia Steinhoff-Wagner, the exchange between the cooperation partners is particularly valuable. "In the discussions, we not only develop a consensus on the current state of knowledge and how this should be implemented in practice - we also identify gaps in research," says the scientist. This gives rise to ideas for further joint research projects that can further improve animal welfare in the future.
