At HEF, the Chair of Digital Agriculture is conducting research in the field of vertical farming on the yield potential of wheat plants, for example. In a completely closed indoor farming system, climate parameters such as temperature, light spectrum or CO2 are precisely adapted to the growth of the plants, so that yields per area and time can be significantly increased.
HEF's SpaceVOCs project will now investigate the potential of volatile substances emitted by plants as indicators of different plant conditions. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and supported by DLR.
Tasks
- Design and implementation of plant experiments in climate chambers
- Acquisition, documentation and analysis of diverse data from the plant stands
- Supervision of installed sensors for automated data acquisition
- Measurement of Volatile Organic Substances by means of an electronic nose
- Coordination of administrative processes in the project consortium such as interim reports and financial overviews
Requirements
- Completed studies in the field of horticulture or agricultural sciences or biology with focus on plant sciences/plant physiology
- Interest in technology and sensors
- Independent and conscientious scientific work
