DLG honours honorary professor Hubert Spiekers
News, Awards |
Hubert Spiekers was awarded the Silver Medal 12 years ago. In the same year, he began teaching at TUM as an honorary professor. The gold award, presented by DLG President Hubertus Paetow, is a special honor for him.
In his laudatory speech to Mr. Spiekers, Mr. Paetow emphasized the richness and scope of Hubert Spiekers' work; parts of his work are considered a reference in consulting, education, politics and practice. The Max Eyth Gold Medal is only awarded for truly pioneering successes in agriculture, says Mr. Paetow, of which there are more than enough in Mr. Spiekers' case. For over 20 years, Hubert Spiekers was head of the Working Group on Feed and Feeding and a year earlier he became head of the Institute of Animal Nutrition and Feed Management at the LfL.
“Building bridges between science and practice”
In his vote of thanks, Hubert Spiekers emphasized the networking and professional exchange within the DLG, which had also helped him in other areas of his professional life. Communicating science and putting it into practice was one of the goals of his work.
Mr. Paetow described Mr. Spiekers as a “networker and initiator”. The initiative is evident not least after his vote of thanks; everyone is in a celebratory mood and wants to honor him, but: “We're not done here yet,” says Mr. Spiekers and wants to continue the discussion in the working group. A symbol of his zest for action.
During the conversation, Hubert Spiekers also emphasizes that with this award, the DLG is not least honouring his work at TUM. Mr. Paetow agrees with him - teaching is an important part of knowledge transfer, they both agree.
