AgScience on tap
Speaker series at Furtnerbräu Freising

Exciting lectures (in English) and lively discussions in a relaxed atmosphere with a cool drink on Wednesday evenings: that's “AgScience-on-Tap”. In this series of events in the “Jagdzimmer” of the Furtnerbräu Freising, you will meet speakers from various fields of agricultural, nutritional and environmental sciences with changing topics. The interdisciplinary organization team from TUM (TU Munich), HSWT (Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences) and LfL (Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture) is looking forward to a large audience for exchange and networking on current research results presented and presented in an understandable way.
Program Summer Semester 2025
Artificial Intelligence - Smart Solutions for the Agriculture of Tomorrow
Texts, images, codes - artificial intelligence can already do a lot, but what are its potentials in agriculture? Experts from TUM, HSWT and LfL explain in a practical and understandable way which technologies are already available and what they are working on for the future. From weed detection to sustainability, artificial intelligence has a lot to offer in agriculture. But can it cause an “AI-revolution”?
Come and join the discussion!
16th April 2025 7 pm | Deep learning-based weed detection: state of the art and future challenges Prof. Dr. Florian Haselbeck (Fakultät Nachhaltige Agrar- und Energiesysteme, HSWT) will talk about deep learning-based weed detection: state of the art and future challenges. Approaches such as spot spraying show promising potential for improving sustainability and reducing herbicide use in weed management. Discover how artificial intelligence can be leveraged for weed detection in agriculture. This talk explores cutting-edge deep learning-based methods for weed detection, highlights current limitations, and outlines key challenges on the road to smarter, more sustainable crop management. | Prof. Dr. Florian Haselbeck HSWT |
7th May 2025 7 pm | AI in Grassland Monitoring | David Stäblein LfL |
4th June 2025 7 pm | Satellite-Powered AI for Sustainable Agricultural Planning In his talk, David Gackstetter (TUM), explores how satellite-powered AI enables meta-analysis of agricultural landscapes to support sustainable agricultural planning. In times of increasingly global challenges, analyzing patterns and trends in agricultural practices at cross-regional scales becomes more important than ever. Related insights serve as valuable basis for food safety strategies, evidence-based policies for sustainable farming, assessments of global agricultural markets, and comprehensive environmental impact assessments at both regional and international level. | TUM |

Modeling creates opportunities to better understand for example how climate change, drought and other environmental conditions affect crops. It can help improve agricultural efficiency by optimizing the use of resources such as water, fertilizer and energy. However, there are challenges to modeling in agriculture. Models must be specifically tailored to provide accurate results, such as individualized to the farm or region. In the winter semester 23/24, we will dive into different aspects of the topic at AgScience on tap.
