Biography
Joseph Gitahi holds an MSc in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Chair of Geoinformatics at the Technical University of Munich. His research focuses on integrating 3D city models and sensor data for Urban Digital Twins applications.
Before joining TUM, Joseph contributed to smart city research at the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, where he focused on air quality monitoring using satellite and ground-based sensor data and developed data infrastructures for traffic congestion detection. He later joined ITS‑United GmbH as a GIS Software Developer, where he was responsible for creating tools to integrate data from various traffic sensors and developing web applications for traffic data and asset management.
Since November 2025, he has managed the IoT sensor data infrastructure at the Hans Eisenmann-Forum, supporting the development of data systems for agricultural research.
