The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has 14 commissions that provide scientific advice to the institute. They deal with topics such as food and feed safety, chemical and product safety, and risk communication and assessment. Starting in 2026, two members of the HEF will be appointed to the commissions.
Prof. Julia Steinhoff-Wagner will be a full member of the BfR Commission for Feed and Animal Nutrition during the 2026 to 2029 session. The commission represents the current state of knowledge for the BfR and thus supports the supervisory authorities of the federal states. The members are scientists from universities, state investigation offices, and other research institutions.
Prof. Friederike Ebner will be a full member of the Bf3R Commission for the 2026 to 2029 session. The experts in the commission make recommendations to the BfR and support the institute, particularly with regard to scientific activities. The Bf3R Commission advises the German Center for the Protection of Laboratory Animals (Bf3R) and its work aims to reduce animal testing and protect laboratory animals.
The following experts from TUM have also been appointed to a BfR commission for the term beginning in 2026:
- Prof. Michael Rychlik (TUM School of Life Sciences, Professor of Analytical Food Chemistry): BfR Commission on Contaminants in the Food Chain
- Prof. Florian Eyer (TUM School of Medicine and Health, Chair of Clinical Toxicology): BfR Commission on the Evaluation of Poisonings
