HEF @ Sustainability Day 2026
Campus |

More than 7,000 people visited the Mechanical Engineering building at TUM that day. They wanted to know: What is TUM doing in the area of sustainability, and how is TUM working to make the world a more sustainable place? More than 120 initiatives, professorships, chairs, and institutes—such as the HEF—showcased their projects.
Agri-PV, Agroforestry and Indoor Vertical Farming
To provide a brief overview, we showed our guests from TUM and beyond three projects: Agri-PV, agroforestry, and indoor vertical farming. Many engineering students and researchers in Garching stopped by to ask: What distinguishes Agri-PV from ground-mounted PV? How exactly do the PV systems affect the plants growing beneath them? And how exactly does indoor farming work? Visitors from China, Mexico, and TUM itself stopped by to learn more about agricultural sciences at TUM. They wanted to know more and connect with the professors researching these topics.
“Many people at TUM don’t realize how much research on agricultural sciences is being conducted at their own institution,” says Claudia Luksch, Executive Director of the HEF. “Here we can introduce the HEF and its members and forge valuable connections with other disciplines.”
About the TUM Sustainability Day
The TUM Sustainability Day took place for the third time in 2026. Here, TUM students, researchers, and staff present everything related to sustainability at the university. Organized by the TUM Sustainability Office, the event serves as a central platform for presentations and exchange among researchers, faculty, students, administrators, and industry representatives.
This year, the “Market of Opportunities” featured over 120 booths, accompanied by a lecture program with over 60 presentations.
